Choosing the Right Real Estate Agent

Are you in the market to either buy or sell a house? Maybe you’re looking to purchase a commercial property, investment property or even a vacant lot to build your dream home! Either way one of the first things you want to do is find a Realtor to work for you. Currently there are a lot of Realtors, at least in the Northwest Indiana market there is. There are a lot of new people coming into the profession and even more part-time realtors.

Let me ask you something. Do you want someone who is selling Real Estate as a hobby to help you with probably the biggest transaction of your life? Ok, let me rephrase this. Would you hire a guy with very little experience to fix a plumbing leak, build an addition, work on your car or anything important? Now, I get everyone must start somewhere but you really can tell the difference between someone who KNOWS WHAT THEY’RE DOING vs the weekend warrior!

If something is a second job, hobby or just something they’re dabbling into are you really going to be a priority? Example, you’re looking for a house for your FAMILY and the perfect home pops up and its noon on a Monday (your day off) and you know it’s going to sell quick. Do you really think someone who’s at work right now is going to be able to drop everything to show you this house? Here’s another example. You’re a seller, you decide to list your home with a realtor and they’re part time. Do they really know the current market conditions, do they really understanding pricing, do they really know what appraisers are looking for, are they actually able to back up the price they told you, did they accidentally UNDER VALUE your home (I see this a lot) or did they maybe WAY OVER PRICE your House so they’d get a listing? Not to mention do they know the lending rules, guidelines and what will need to be done in order to sell your home?

When you are thinking of buying or selling a house or really any form of Real Estate you really should have a great Realtor who is here to help. Really to me a GREAT realtor doesn’t care about a sale, but they care about helping you and guiding you in the right direction. Some transactions are cut and dry. Sometimes, people think they need to sell when they really don’t want to but there maybe a plan to help them. Sometimes people think they need a good amount down in order to buy. Either way a great Real Estate agent should be a wealth of knowledge and someone you can rely on to help you and guide you through any form of Real Estate transaction. See, this is what I strive for. I like to think of myself as “the consultant of Real Estate”. I’m not saying you have to use me but please be sure to have a GOOD realtor on your side.
